How to Create Your Why

We’ve found that the artists who generate the most money with their Contribute.to Card have a very distinct reason and purpose. People want to understand what they are putting their money toward. People need and want transparency. It’s important that you give this to them.

Defining your ‘Why’ makes a huge difference between receiving $100s and $1,000s in contributions.

Now, a quick heads-up: deciding what your ‘Why’ is constitutes a huge, existential question, and it is NOT easy. So let’s review the steps together.

In the video below, our resident curator and art historian Carrie Scott walks you through that process, helping you articulate what gets you out of bed and what motivates you to create.

A final note: remember, the character count is tight here. Your description can be 500-750 characters before you have to start scrolling. That’s not a ton of space, so lose anything repetitive. Cut out what’s superfluous. Do your best to be short, simple and to the point.

At the end of the day, it’s all about being clear. Specific. Honest and open. And, most of all, don’t be afraid of being passionate. Good luck!
